Description

Biographical or Historical Note

Horicon School is located at 351437 Annapolis Road, Annapolis, California. The school was built in the 1870's. Maud E. Merritt was the teacher between 1898 and 1901. On October 19, 1982, the title for the property was donated to the Annapolis Historical Society by the Patchett family, heirs to the original owners, after two members of the society paid back taxes to prevent the County of Sonoma from declaring foreclosure or razing the building. AHS members raised money for materials and labor for the schoolhouse's restoration. The completed building was to be used as a schoolhouse museum and community library.
