Biographical or Historical Note

Job's Daughters was founded as an organization for young women in Omaha, Nebraska in 1920, and expanded to California in 1923 by Mrs. Ethel T. Wead Mick. Mrs. Mick wanted a safe place for girls to build leadership skills, engage in fun activities, and serve their local communities. The organization's name was inspired by the Biblical story of Job and his preseverance in overcoming great obstacles. Partnering with her husband, Dr. William H. Mick, who was an active Mason and participant in the community, they established Job's Daughters to be part of the community and relationally based Masonic community. Along with other interested Master Masons and members of the Eastern Star, she founded the International Order of Job's Daughters, later named Job's Daughters International. Nancy Ling, later Nancy Ling Perry (September 19, 1947 – May 17, 1974), also known as Nancy Devoto, Lynn Ledworth, and Fahizah, was a member of the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA). On May 17, 1974, Nancy Ling Perry, along with several members of the SLA, were killed at 1466 East 54th Street, during a shootout with the Los Angeles Police Department. Creator Note

Photographer Don Meacham (May 30, 1916-Feb. 28, 2010) was born in Cowell, Contra Costa County in 1916. He lived most of his life in Sonoma County where he retired as freelance commercial photographer after 50 years in the profession. He worked as a photographer in the Navy during WWII; was the flagship photographer on the U.S.S. Augusta during the North African invasion; and was Chief Photographer of the Naval Air Station in Santa Rosa until the war ended. Meacham was a charter member and chairman of the Santa Rosa Civic Art Commission and was instrumental in establishing Arttrium, the county's first visual and performing arts festival.
