Biographical or Historical Note

Show held at Redwood Roller Palace, April 28-30, 1957, featuring students of owner Marvin Carstensen. The rink was located at 1425 Santa Rosa Avenue, Santa Rosa, California. An article announcing the event was published in the Sebastopol Times on April 18th, 1957: ROLLER SKATING REVUE TO RENEFIT COUNTY'S CRIPPLED CHILDREN. A benefit Roller Skating Revue will be presented on April 28, 29, and 30 by the Redwood Roller Palace Skaters. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Sonoma County Society for Crippled Children and Adults, Incorporated. The Redwood Roller Palace Skaters are children of all ages with amateur rating but with plenty of talent. There are over 100 boys and girls who have been working many hours to put on this benefit show for the crippled children. The show will include solos, specialties, group numbers, and dance teams. It is the first time that these skaters have attempted to put on such a show as this. Each performance will begin at 8 p. m. and conclude at 10:30 p. m. Tickets may be purchased at the Rosenberg Building, Room 401; from the Redwood Roller Palace; or from any of the 100 or more people participating in the show. Creator Note

Photographer Don Meacham (May 30, 1916-Feb. 28, 2010) was born in Cowell, Contra Costa County in 1916. He lived most of his life in Sonoma County where he retired as freelance commercial photographer after 50 years in the profession. He worked as a photographer in the Navy during WWII; was the flagship photographer on the U.S.S. Augusta during the North African invasion; and was Chief Photographer of the Naval Air Station in Santa Rosa until the war ended. Meacham was a charter member and chairman of the Santa Rosa Civic Art Commission and was instrumental in establishing Arttrium, the county's first visual and performing arts festival.
