Description

View of the Healey Mansion from the corner of Keokuk and Washington streets. The elaborate, three-story home features a curved, corner entry porch topped with a round tower and conical roof.

Biographical or Historical Note

The Healey Mansion once graced the corner of Washington and Keokuk Streets. Designed by J. Cather Newsom and built for Dennis J. Healey and his family in 1902, it was later known as Sorensen Funeral Home. The house was razed in 1969 to be replaced with a gasoline station; the site is currently (2023) a vacant lot. The destruction of this Victorian masterpiece inspired the establishment of Heritage Homes of Petaluma and the movement to preserve the city’s architectural heritage.
