Biographical or Historical Note

The Santa Rosa Sports Banquet was founded in 1954 by radio station KSRO sports director and banker Dan Galvin. Held annually through the 1960s and 1970s at the Santa Rosa Hotel and later the Flamingo Hotel, the Redcoats committee invited major athletes and their spouses from across the country. Proceeds went to the March of Dimes and other, often local, charities. See Lee Torliatt: Galvin, Redcoats, Brought Kings of Sports to Banquet, Sonoma Historian, 2010 #2, p. 9-13.
