Description

Shows sailing scow "Alma" moored on the Petaluma River.

Biographical or Historical Note

Gaff-rigged sailing scow, built in 1891; once used for ferrying hay to San Francisco and as shell dredger; "official city vessel of Petaluma"; berthed at the National Maritime Museum, Hyde Street Pier, San Francisco; turning basin attraction; with visitors onboard and spectators overhead on the rail trestle. 1986 marked the first time the two festivals were combined; held for the benefit of the Petaluma Old Adobe.
