Biographical or Historical Note

Born, Linda Garcia, in the little town of San Lucas, just south of King City, in Monterey County, California, Pepper had a very difficult childhood, losing her mother at the age of just 9 months. She spent all her formative years in Catholic orphanages and schools in the vicinity of Santa Cruz and Watsonville. She found her way to Sonoma County, and eventually settled in Santa Rosa where she had the distinction, as Gaye LeBaron says, of being the "undisputed town character" for 50 years.
