Description

An unidentified group of politicians and police officials stand at attention during the funeral proceedings of detectives Miles Jackson and Lester Dorman, who were murdered by the Howard Street Gang.

Biographical or Historical Note

Detectives Miles M. Jackson and Lester Dorman of the San Francisco Police Department and Sonoma County Sheriff James Petray were slain by George Boyd of the San Francisco Howard Street Gang in Santa Rosa on December 5, 1920. The law officers were killed during the arrest of the gang. Charles Valento and Terrance Fitts were also members. The gang was lynched by Sonoma County vigilantes in the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery on December 10, 1920. (ANNEX R 979.418 OWEN)
