- Description
- This public artwork was created as a response to the October 2017 wildfires that destroyed home and took lives in Santa Rosa. The Fountaingrove area and this park (Rincon Ridge) were particularly hard hit. The City of Santa Rosa asked for artists to propose artworks to respond to the fires. This artwork aimed to bring new life and hope and spots of color to this burned over park in Fountaingrove. Community people helped to make the handmade paper quilt that had seeds for wildflowers in the pulp to grow and sprout and bloom in the same colors and pattern. The pattern for this quilt is a traditional one called "Flying Geese" I thought this pattern was a reflection of hope for the future and being able to fly away to a different place. The artwork was installed on Nov. 25, 2018, and it continues to change over time and the wildflowers bloom each spring. My Blog at http://janeingramallen.wordpress.com has more posts about this art project and others I have made around the world.
