- Description
- Photo -black and white: The Enmanji Buddhist Temple at 1200 Gravenstein Highway South in Sebastopol. Photo taken after 1947 as the original bell-shaped windows were replaced by rectangular ones. Pagoda's on either side of the door with very ornate and intricate roof. Originally built by the Manchurian Railroad Company for the Chicago World's Fair in 1933. The building faithfully represents a 12th century Kamakura-style Japanese temple. After the fair it was offered to the members of the Sonoma County Buddhist Temple and the structure was dismantled and shipped by rail to Sebastopol for reassembly which was completed in 1934. In 2009 the Enmanji Temple celebrated it's 75th anniversary. Photographed by Ron Chamberlain.
