- Description
- One of the the scarcest and most interesting of early American texts on viticulture, Spooner's book includes history and quality of American wine grapes, especially the Isabella and the Catawba. Spooner wrote with first hand knowledge from his Brooklyn vineyards, where he conducted experiments since 1827. The book includes a summary of grape growing in the New York City area, including New Jersey, Long Island, and other nearby sites. He says Adlum's fox-grape wine was "equal to Chambertin.";The second edition contains the exact same text as the first edition (1846).The only difference seems to be the title page, with its "Second Edition" and different publication date.
