Biographical or Historical Note

Wilfred E. Bixby, Jr. (1908-1971) was the son of Dr. Wilfred E. Bixby, Sebastopol physician who committed suicide in 1937. His mother, Grace Anne (Foizy) Bixby, was at one time a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Oakland, later she was matron at the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office -- the only woman employed in this fashion there. The Bixby house was later demolished and an apartment house built in its place.
