The top hat kid

good on the first monday in the month of january, I'll excited After his nice school while he was walking, he remembered that january was National type that month he flew back to his house as fast as he could, shoes tapping on the sidewalk, sprinting to still

get back to school on time, tap, tap tap, he grabbed his father's top hat and headed off to school again with a big smile on his face. After briskly walking for a couple of minutes, Alex saw the school in the distance. Once he got close to

the school, his friend bob caught up with him. Hey Alex, nice hut! Exclaimed his friend bob thinks it's national top that month, Alex replied to bob when they got to the school, the other kids gawked and giggled at his top hat. Why are you wearing a

top hat? Asked Jeff. It's national on top that month, replied Alex. Once Alex entered the inside of the school, he looked around on his left, there was a group of students with no top hats on on his right. He saw another group of students laughing and

pointing out, why is no one else wearing a top? It asked Alex, confused. We didn't know it was national top that month, exclaimed the giving students. I think the top hat looks weird, snare drum. The other students giggled at this comment. They made Alex feel like

a gnat just because of his non flat hat. Indian. Arnold as well as the other classmates continued to laugh at Alex. Once class started, Alex went into the classroom and sat down at his desk in the center of the room. The class laughed as they saw

Alex's tall hat. Alex's cheeks cheeks burned bright red like a tomato. I don't want to sit near Alex. His heart is weird, crumbled Andy me neither, Arnold agreed Alex sat all alone with everyone else, trying to be as far away from him as possible. Bring the

lunch bell ring so I like sat down at the lunch table with some other students. I'm not sitting here remark the students in unison. The students left in there except for his friend bob. I think the top part looks good, said bob. Thanks Alex responded, looking

sad while Alex and bob were eating lunch at their table, they saw other students snickering. The kids continued to laugh at Alex all day and at the end of the day some students led by Andy cornered Alex, Andy and the group he was leading confronted Alex.

The hat is done, the students yelled, no it's not, stop it, Alex held back. It should be assistants, because you're being mean to me for no reason, just because I'm wearing a top hat, there's no reason to bully me. It is just wrong, Alex explained back

at them. The students stood there pondering Alex's statement, he might be right, said one of the students, the students then concluded that Alex was right just because someone is wearing a top hat that doesn't give you the right to believe them. In the next few days,

Alex was treated nicely, he is just as popular as Andy and was part of the group. They allowed him to join the chess club as well as most of the sports teams. He was the best to chest and he got the most schools in soccer. Few

days later they included him in their game of Kickball, Alex got the score and one everyone shared and applauded Alex, he was included in their playground games such as a tag, hide and seek and jumped through the toiling rope at the end of the day. They

were all nice to him and they called them their friends the end. So the thematic concept, the big idea of the story is acceptance. Gavin. Can you tell me what the thematic statement is? In other words, the universal message about life that can be understood by

anyone who reads this story? Yes, you do not have to be the same. All that matters. Is that you accept yourself? Awesome. Thank you so much. I do want to point out that these students organized their writing before they started. They identified what concept they wanted

to convey and um what conflict and characters and setting this was going to take place in. And they worked from the conflict climax and resolution and filled in the rising and falling action afterwards. Um they also incorporated in a liberation and some rhyme and lots of

sensory details and dialogue. So if you're reading this story as a student, those are some things you could go hunt for. Um as literary detectives, they also have developed some cost is levels of thinking, tasks and questions for us. So if we're in level one cost

is thinking, that means we're gathering information. So some of the information you might gather is why does Alex get bullied? Who are the bullies of this story? And why does Alex wear a hat? If you want to bump into higher level thinking that moves beyond gathering

the information into processing the questions. They came up with our contrast, Alex and bob compare bob and Alex. What events in the story help us understand the authors theme, and then their final question bumps this into the highest level of thinking, which is where you've gathered

information, you've processed the information and now you can apply it by creating something. So the question they've come up with is imagine you were Alex in this situation, What would you do? Imagine what you would do if you were in the place of bob? Thank you
