- PREFACE -
This volume of cemetery' records was collected entirely by the Santa Rosa
Chapter of the Laughters of tie American Revolution. These make a complete record
from lo46 to 1921 of all the cemeteries and private burying grounds in Sonoma
County, California. There are ninety' such cemeteries with 11,259 names, plus
twelve pages of death notices copies from old newspapers doting 'from 1854 to
1860.
Great credit is due Mrs. Edith Merritt, genealogical records chairman for
S nta Rosa Chapter, and her assistants for this comprehensive work. Mrs.
Мввг-
ilt traveled seven hundred and ninety'-nine miles to copy these records, beginning
in 1934 and bringing it to completion 1941. She paid all costs of collecting
the material, but the chapter paid for the paper and ty'ping of the four copies»
May the zeal which promted Mrs. Merritt and the members of S.R. Chapter to com¬
plete this undertaking be instilled in some other one chapter, or group of
chapters in each county and that a complete record of all the old cemeteries in
California hay be obtained.
