Biographical or Historical Note

The Petaluma Yacht Club held a "Harbor Day" event on Sunday, August 15, 1940, at their temporary harbor prior to building permanent berths at the Petaluma Marina. The Petaluma Argus-Courier reported that 6,000-7,000 people attended the event, with boats sailed and trailered in from all around the San Francisco Bay area and north Bay counties. Petaluma resident and Redwood Empire Dairy Maid Queen Haroldine Halvorson presided over the day and presented awards to winners of several contests. The temporary harbor site was located near the later site of Van Bebber Bros.; the Petaluma Rowing Club currently (2023) operates from a dock nearby.
