- Postcard to Mr. Luther Burbank. Santa Rosa. California. Postmarked St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 22, 1904. White postcard marked "Post Card". Reverse shows photograph of exhibit at the 1904 World's Fair and is printed with the text: "Compliments of Illinois Commission. Partial view of one of the Boys' Corn Pavilions, representing the efforts of 8,000 Farmer Boys of Illinois, in the Illinois Agricultural Section at World's Fair, 1904. More than 1,000 prize winners shown; more than 600 photographs of these boys on their corn; more than three thousand dollars in premiums given by private individuals. The entire story of five years' work with these loyal, sturdy farmer boys, leading up tot the World's Fair contest told in an 80-page book and sent free to farmer boys. Address the superintendent of the plan. Will B. Otwell, Carlinville, Illinois." Written in ink: St. Louis Mo. Sept. 22, '04. My dear Mr. Burbank These cards are dishes baked at the World's Fair. It is the first time I see plant breeding advertised this way. Perhaps it may suggest something to you too. Respectfully, Frank N. Meyer."
