Biographical or Historical Note

In front of grocery store are Daniel M. Wambold (middle) and Jotham Sedgley (right). House on the right was the residence of merchant I. E. Shaw, founder of the First National Bank and builder of the Shaw-Bowman Building. Wambold purchased the store in April 1897, as documented in his diary. He was one of Cloverdale’s earliest residents and spent most of his life farming in Oat Valley, just north of Cloverdale.
