Biographical or Historical Note

Built in 1880. Located at 331 Sunnyslope Avenue. Dan Peterson's Petaluma historic resource survey misidentifies this house as the A. B. Hill House. While A. B. HIll's wife, Hattie (whom he divorced) and sister-in-law Julia Higbee lived next door to this house, historian Diana Painter was not able to make the connection between the Hill family and this house when she did a historical properties evaluation. Mrs. Clara Lauritzen, a widow, and her daughter Augusta lived in the house from some time between 1900 and 1906 (Arthur's City and Rural Directory of Petaluma, California. Petaluma Argus Print, 1906) through at least 1920 (1920 census). The Lauritzen family in Petaluma was known primarily as steamship and ferry captains, although John Lauritzen also worked for the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. Mrs. J. W. Jones lived in the house from 1924 to 1941, Charlotte Jones was married to John W. Jones, but was widowed by about 1940. In earlier years, Mr. Jones was noted as working in a lab. The Pomettas bought the house in 1942. Lester Pometta was born in 1910 in California and died in 1988. His wife Leona was born in Michigan in 1909 and died in 1976. Mr. Pometta was a pharmacist and worked at Guth & Co. in San Francisco and at Tuttle Drug in Petaluma. They lived at the house on 112 Seventh Street from 1942 to about 1988. Mr. Pometta died in 1988 and the house was purchased in 1989 by Gordan Blumenfeld.
