Photo--Black and white: Frank Craig and his four-horse team hauling logs from the Donati, Gonnella and Sturgeon Sawmill, located at Green Hill Road, Occidental 1925 Photo identified by Ralph Sturgeon as "Logging 102." Caption on verso by Ralph Sturgeon-- "Frank Craig's team he's holding the leather, person along side of him is probably John Craig, Francis Alexander, 1883-'s son. Merl A. Sturgeon white sailor hat, Ernest LaFont. Frank was a fine teamster, kind to the animals, never hurried them. I seen him yarding out logs here in the canyon back before Donati, Gonnella and Sturgeon had their first Dolbeer-Carson steam donkey going--and it was something the way he handled his steam. Usually a couple pulls & horses start acting up. Not so with Frank. He'd try a log first one way, then another -time after time. I guess they'd gone on trying all day until it was out to the landing. Remember he'd go around to each horse & talk to it, give it a rub or a pat. Next time around those horses would get right down on their bellies and give it all they had. Would make one cry watching! Note--Frank never used profanity, but did note that a good part of the time much of the time much of the harness was held together with hay-wire."
