Our sea of purple

This is an eighth grade Children's book project, Our Sea of Purple, written by Angelita, gutierrez Mirena Prieto, Eleanor Daley and Eva huffstutter. It was illustrated by Eleanor Daley and she's also going to be doing the dramatic reading of this story. Thank you eighth graders from Greenville

School for our Sea of Purple. Yeah. With the help of MS cleanser and elements inspired by the web tune artist Stephan McRaney, author of Space Boy. Our team was able to create this sci fi story, Our Sea of Purple. Once there was a girl named Cecil

Leeloo. She lived in her rest colored house along with her mother and father Sicily's life was going great until something catastrophic happened. A toxic space rock hurdled itself towards the earth changing the poor planet as it sped closer, Looking up past her parents head Sicily saw

spiral tree shoot up like fireworks out of the frightening forest. The sea gave off purple glare while crashing angrily on rocks. The lose quickly grabbed their belongings and sped to Shark Coast station to evacuate their home planet Sicily's father gave the tall man a large amount

of his wallet and the family entered the spaceship that would take them to the red planet. Unfortunately, some residents of Earth couldn't board the ship in time and we're left to the corrupted land and animals to continue their lively livelihoods. After safely living on mars for

five years, the Lose and other travelers were told that Earth was livable once again on that day Sicily took a long, hard look at himself herself in the mirror, She was five when she left earth and she realized that time sure does fly. She had gotten

exactly a foot taller and her feet had outgrown a lot of her shoes, excessively packed her bags and left the house with her family, my old home, my own life. It's time for us to come back! Thought Sicily. As she boarded the threshold of the ship,

spaceship took off and asked Sicily went. She looked down at mars, growing smaller and smaller. After a long trip of sleeping and fidgeting blues arrived home to Planet Earth. The sky had turned heel and the water purple. She looked around and noticed a dog with the

torso of a deer in the legs of the chicken. one space rock was all I talked to make, that she pondered Earth had changed so much in the span of five years, so, if the surroundings of Earth had changed, had the people left behind change to?

She further questioned excessively. His imagination ran rapidly, her mind dancing around all the endless possibilities on the unexplored planet. As she and her family ordered the public transport bus to her old home. The bus came to a quick halt thud Sicily's stopped dozing and swung her

bag over her shoulder. The lose collapsed in their beige quarters Sicily put away her stuff. She dusted off some old wooden furniture and flatten the rug on the floor that he had become worn and frayed after so many years of abandonment. Her mother came through the

arched doorway all of a sudden. Guess what really? Her mom exclaimed, with a big smile on her face. What? Cicely looked curiously at her mother. You are going to attend the local school just down the road. What really? I thought it would be in shambles Sicily

said, looking puzzled. Well it's not so get ready because you start school in three days. Ma informed her, Cicely didn't waste any time, she didn't even say anything back to her mom. She specially prepared her backpack. She was excited to start 5th grade, but she paid.

She waited patiently for the next three days on the first day of school Sicily woke up to the smell of her father's cooking. She immediately got ready for school in her breakfast and gotten her mom's car. Her mother started the car and drove sle to the

school. Her mother reminded Sicily to do her best as she walked her to the classroom door, the teacher standing at the front of the class, introduced Sicily to everyone students. This is Sicily, she has immigrated to our humble town for mas, she loves to livia, but

being gone for so long means that she has not yet been beautified by the nuclear activity of the meteor that he survived. Please treat her with the same kindness you expect to be treated with mr citrus, paused scanning the room of docking students. So so we

we sit over there, he said, looking in the direction of a girl with slimy grass hair Sicily was asked to sit next to the girl at the back of the classroom named Jamie. Throughout the school day, Jamie and Sicily became best friends. They sat next to

each other and talked all throughout class, yet not enough to be a nuisance. Those two are inseparable. One day while they were playing on the school playground, a tall girl with a strange appearance approach. The pair, Her name was toxic, anna She had jumbled tentacle hair,

mushrooms sprouting from her skin and the menacing glare parks. Canada said in a sarcastic tone. Do you know what I just noticed? What is it cecil? Yes, slightly annoyed. You look as intriguing as a bowling pin toxic on the set. Well, you can stay and chat

with us about it if you like. Considering you felt like approaching us anyhow, remarked Jamie, why would I even bother hanging out with someone like you Sicily stayed silent hearing these words from this girl. She didn't know really hurt Sicily didn't have any horns or a

third eye. She had two eyes, dark skin and messy. Black hair was just plain old hair, not grass or tentacles or twins. She lived in the beige house with a white picket fence near the sea Sicily was starting to miss mars, she realized it was true

here on this new earth. She was just playing on interesting. The reason why I hang out with cecil is because she's a good friend, said Jamie trying to defend Sicily it's the content of our character that matters. We're all different and we should celebrate our differences

toxic. Anna just walked away with a disgusted look on her face. Sorry about her, Jamie told Sicily she was always been rude to people and she has never had any good friends. She's especially mad at the people who left earth five years ago because she wasn't

able to go, That's okay. Cicely said in response. At least I have a good friend like you after that day, Tax Canada would call Sicily a bowling pin and a marshaling. Yeah. The constant bullying went on for months. I talked to Kanye even wanted to get

back at Jamie for sticking up precisely toxic. Anna started a rumor about Jamie that in the third grade she used to bully talks camp, which wasn't true. Jamie started to get weird stares from her classmates and even the teachers. She even got pulled out of Class

one day to go to the talk to the principal finally successfully had enough, had had enough. It didn't seem like anyone was sticking up for Jamie and even the grownups didn't really understand what was going on. One day, she walked over to Toscana with a determined

face and said through gritted teeth, toxic. Anna apologized to Jamie right now. And why do I need to do that tax? Can I replied, you need to apologize because bullying other people isn't the right thing to do just because other people look and act differently from

you. Doesn't give you the right to say those things about Jamie. You need to be the better person and stop treating others like there are any less important than you are. You matter, you're important and you are beautiful being yourself and unguarded. Can't you let everyone

feel good about just being themselves, talks to Canada doesn't have any toxic Anna didn't have anything to say or to accept. Oh, Okay. Let's pause again. Um actually just pick up at 11 or at at the 12 toxic cannon didn't have anything to say or do

had made a good friendship with her former enemy. See and so the thematic concept that you guys identified that you wanted to write your story about was bullying. Can you tell me the thematic message that you hope your readers would get from your story? Um, you

shouldn't bully people through the way that they look or where they come from. It's as simple as that. And I would like to point out that we did do some organizing of our writing. We always do pre writing when we write a story. So we know

that we're gonna make it to the end. And we started with what was the thematic concept, the big idea and then what was the message about that big idea, The thematic message and um their characters and they're setting and then where their story went to a

turning point and resolution was all mapped out before they wrote their story. And after they wrote their story, the students came up with some questions um for other students to maybe engage with their story using cost as levels of thinking. Um starting with level one, the

gathering level of thinking. What is Sicily's last name? Why did Earth change and what grade is Sicily in all of those questions are in the gathering category of thinking because they can be found in the text bumping into level two thinking is where you process information

that you've gathered from the text. So they've got compare and contrast how cecilia's parents work and how yours work compare and contrast toxic anna and Jamie compare and contrast Jamie and Sicily. So getting into level two thinking means that the reader is engaging in breaking down

and examining closely the information that they've gathered and then finally they ended with some level three application questions which is the highest level of thinking. Imagine you were told that you had to evacuate to Mars, what would be your top five things you brought and why?

And lastly, how might Sicily have been treated differently if she hadn't gone to MArs. I hope you enjoyed this fabulous story and that you also are inspired to get creative and write stories about things that matter to you. Thanks for participating in this with us.
